The Hive Mind & Narcisistic Behaviours

Spoilers for season one of the TV show Pluribus ahead.

The hive mind and narcissistic leaders of big and small scales looks to have similarities in my mind, and it’s truly fascinating to me.

The hive knowingly abandoned Carol.

So this is my letter to Carol Sturka’s out there,

A narcissistic behaviour is visibly defined in my mind when someone or some group:

Offer invisibility as punishment to their freedom-seeking loyal followers, or subjects like Carol, to keep them in line. They offer punishment for straying out of their intended path of their own choosing. Giving Carol a taste of her desired freedom and punishing her with their own absence.

So the hive has left Carol.

Now, she’s free at last.

Unaware, alone, free but abandoned, one becomes none. Carol needs people; she needs to have connections, she needs to feel connected, she needs what the hive has, she’s craving what they’re having right now as we speak. So she begs, ashamed of herself, she begs to be led back into the fold and become one again. To be seen again, to be touched again, to laugh again, to love again, to be loved again, to breathe again, to live again ❤️

I’m going to say this plainly now, that one person Carol thinks she loves and cares about, Zosia, doesn’t see her when she looks at her. They are a collective, and they see themselves. They see a means to an end in Carol. So, she’s disappearing when she stands too close to them. She needs her own space to breathe again, but she is dependent on them at this point. She needs them to take care of her basic human needs. On top of that, now that she’s basically friendless without them because the remaining 10 people also left her out and formed their own group, without her.

So, Carol has been ostracised from society, basically.

The hive has told, and proven to her, “They never lie.” That was their first deception. Which, she truly believes that they cannot lie at this point. Every liar who lies to themselves first says, “They never lie.” Deception starts with the self and then moves on to others. We the humans, always lie, all the time. It’s in our nature. But, the hive has lost its humanity.  Carol needs to accept that fact, kindly and respectfully.

Zosia is currently not a human being.  That’s a fact.

The hive has done so much for Carol already, given away so much of themselves for Carol. So, she can’t leave them behind just yet. She can’t just go back to the darkness of being and feeling lonely again.

She has invested so much time and effort into this one relationship, to Zosia, to the hive, and she behaves as if it’s going to be worth her time and effort one day.

Sadly, that is an illusion. ❤️

When we’re able to see those behaviours in someone or in some group, we realise their behaviours weren’t out of the goodness of their heart to begin with. It was to control Carol’s choices. To keep her in line. No one who truly loves or cares for someone will ever try to control or limit their behaviours. Ever. So, Carol needs to accept the fact that she’s never truly ‘felt like’ she’s been truly cared for earlier in her life, thus far.

BUT, when she takes that hard truth in! It will begin to heal her. And her eyes will open back up again.

‘Felt like’ is the key wording there.

Internal feelings can deceive us as well. Our perception of reality has its limits. I’ll explain this part later on.

She needs to remind herself that:

They’ve got her stem cells. They knowingly withheld crucial information from her. That’s worse than being lied to, directly to one’s face. I think that’s the definition of being cheated on. She has been deceived by them, and she needs to accept that Zosia and the hive have compromised her trust in them.

And now, they’re leaving her again.

I think she needs to be the one choosing to leave them behind, for her to truly separate herself from the hive.

She needs to realise that:

Love is not control.

Being loved by someone does not feel like being controlled by them, all the time.

When someone truly loves you, they won’t try to change you into someone or something that you’re not!

That’s manipulation.

Love is freedom.

Being loved feels freeing ❤️

It feels like you can swim far, far away from the shore, and when you’re all tired and want to lie back down at the beach again, the beach will still be there.

Being loved feels like freedom.

Love feels safe.

It’s secure.

Carol’s people, her person, Helen, will always be there for her, even when she’s being rough and tough with them.

Even when she drinks.

Even when she wants to conceive and can’t, Helen won’t leave her.

She will stick by her!

She’s done it already, until she’s taken her last breath.

That supposed microphone reveal… In reality, the alcohol cabinet motion detector device reveal… I mean… Even if it was put there by Helen… Which it was.

The timing of when Carol has received that information was hard to witness for me.

It was weaponised information, directed at Carol, to lure her right into the hive.

After watching that episode, and finishing the show, it resurfaced my own past experiences, and I had to deal with my own thoughts and feelings, these past couple of days, until I found it’s place, here in writing.

Love is secure, even when you make mistakes.

We’re all humans here.

People make mistakes.

That’s how our brains work.

We’re meant to make mistakes in life.

That’s how we learn.

That is, the only way to gain true knowledge.

To be curious.

To be human.

Carol is not meant to be made to feel insecure all the time.

Carol is not an insecure person.

She’s an imperfect free spirit who loves and cares deeply❤️

And, she’s not alone.

She needs to look for a way out of her dependence on the hive, in a timely manner.

She can find it.

She needs to remember to:

Hold onto her connection to Helen.

That connection is what scares the hive.

That connection is the reason Zosia exist, she’s there to take their bond away from her.

That connection is the reason they’re working tirelessly to cure Carol.

I mean… How’s that any different from sending your child to a conversion therapy camp…

To ‘cure’ the gay away from a child…

Makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it…

(Please do not reject your children. Or, pay attention to your actions, causing them to unintentionally ‘feel rejected’ by any means. Just let them be themselves, and they’ll blossom in time. Whoever is reading this right now, I apologise if I ever unintentionally made you feel rejected. I take full responsibility for my actions, alright. It wasn’t about you at the time. I was distracted by my own struggles in life. Please, do not take my actions personally. I am one of those people who does not shy away from being clear on their intentions. I’m unnecessarily direct at times, which will neutralise in time. ❤️)

Also, Zosia is Carol’s creation, and she’ll always remain so.

Carol just doesn’t need to be around the hive anymore.

She just needs to write her own stories as she pleases.

She basically owns the character of Zosia.

Zosia is just an idea. Her idea.

She’s not a person. Not a human being.

Carol needs to learn that we can’t be with someone before we’re a fully realised individual of our own.

An adult.

She needs to see that the hive is always putting itself first; it’s not there to be of service to her, and a changing of perspective is necessary here.

She’s dependent on them for her own survival.

On the other hand, codependency is how the all-consuming, all or non relationships are defined in psychology. It is a glue that binds two people to one another.

One might read Carol and Helen’s relationship as codependency, but I don’t truly believe that in reality.

First of all.

Carol doesn’t need a glue to form connections with people.

The hive does.

They have literally created a formula for connection.

Carol wrote a successful book series that connects a bunch of readers to an entertainment form. Yes, I would classify Wycaro as an entertainment form. We need to be entertained in life, as well. It can’t all just be Finnegan’s Wake by James Joyce or The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin❤️ We need Wycaro’s in this world to turn our fantasies into reality through various mediums as well.

Carol also didn’t need this formula to connect with Helen.

She’s disconnected from her readers because she’s disconnected from her work. Raban should’ve been a female character… But alas, that is a separate discussion topic about making money vs. staying true to your own fantasy.

Also, Helen truly loves Carol’s work, as do her readers. ❤️

Carol has become a cynical person over time, that’s all.

Contrarily, the hive needs the glue. Badly.

Zosia’s purpose in this relationship with Carol here is to make the hive presentable and likeable in Carol’s eyes.

They’ve assigned Zosia a role Carol has written, because life is a performance to them.

They are performing, as humans.

Carol needs to make peace with the reality of her situation at all times.

Realise her own immense desire to be independent and free and bold and courageous and above all else happy and healthy and content at all times, no matter the cost.

She needs to do an act of kindness for herself, as an actual human being, in this relationship she’s formed with Zosia and the hive and leave them. Freely. And, try to survive without them.

For good.

I think then, together with Manousos they can focus on ways to disconnect people from the hive.

Every glue wears off somehow, in time and effort…

When she leaves them for good, she’ll see people again.

She’ll see whether or not what she’s sharing with the hive is/was or wasn’t love to begin with.

One way to show love is when one lets someone go, freely.

And do not try to approach them or a person ever after that.

Two people can both grow together or apart, but it will always happen freely.

After they’ve left Carol:

If they lure her back in…

If they take her back in…

And if she’s convinced somehow that the hive is good and that she needs them, or worse, loves Zosia… Proves that the distance was all an act of releasing and regaining control on their part.

And that’s not love.

Proves the hive does not care about humanity.

The only way that Carol will find out, that she’ll know for sure, that the hive has in fact loved and cared for her is from afar.

If they’ve truly loved her, they’ll stay away, forever.

Leave her be, and return her stem cells to her.

And stop working on curing her altogether.

They won’t try to take away her humanity from her, ever again.

Leave her be.

And keep loving her from afar❤️

End of letter to Carol’s.

The season ended here, so we’ll see whether or not the hive is, in fact, well-intentioned or not in the following seasons🤓

OK. My predictions for future plots:

Hopefully, we’ll see about the “They can’t lie.” part.

I doubt it. They for sure can lie… I think they’re planning on getting rid of the human bodies altogether when they’re leaving Earth, as if humanity never had existed to begin with… Reminds anyone of any other horrors of our human history at all? The word we’re looking for is genocide.

Remember:

They eat people!

I think it’s safe to say that we can effortlessly draw the line at cannibalism. ❤️

So there is still hope for season two.

For humanity.

For humility.

For real connections.

How I would like to see this story unfold:

I think only people who are in touch with their emotions truly appreciate art when they encounter it.

And Carol loves art.

In life, one has to accept their flaws, respect their faults, learn from them, get up, and keep at it again, for there will be another day, to do it all over again❤️

Carol is an artist at heart.

We know our time is limited on this Earth, and we’d better make the most of it, surrounding ourselves with the people that we actually respect.

One cannot truly love someone, that one cannot respect.

Respect always comes before love.

Carol loves Helen, but while she’s grieving Helen’s loss, she keeps finding herself losing trust in her, on days on end.

I think she is being manipulated by the hive. They are her information source. Her ‘helping hand’ is convincing her of facts about her wife, during her grieving period, to connect her to themselves.

They might have even caused Helen’s death; we don’t know for sure how Helen really ended up dying after the joining was completed.

Carol’s efforts to do the right thing fail because when she gets emotional around the hive, it causes harm to them. As a result, she’s scaring away the other 10 humans. Because they view her as a danger to themselves. Also, she has caused harm to other people’s significant others as well; she has become a mass murderer by being emotional.

For it to rationally make sense:

I think the hive must be in full control of the human bodies.

Carol needs to pause, breathe and pay attention now. Step by step.

Look,

See,

Realise,

Evaluate,

Analyse,

And

Decide.

The hive is repeating her mother’s actions; they’re repeating her unresolved history back at her, to trigger her with unresolved emotions.

At this point in the story, in the mist of betrayal, Carol finds herself needing to accept the fact that she does not trust Helen anymore. She’s in pain, and she’s numbing herself with a drink and sitcoms.

Could’ve been work, weed, sex, money, other people, any form of storytelling medium, anything really.

Before, her grief period had reached its natural cycle:

The hive have displaced and stolen Carol’s grief, to forcibly direct her need for connection onto themselves.

It is undeniable to me that they’re trying to manipulate her into themselves. Into a joining.

I think, when she realises that Helen was her one true connection, and that she has truly passed, and that her time with her has come to an unnatural end, she’ll realise the hive has stolen Helen from her.

On purpose.

Zosia, is Carol’s fantasy, came to life!

Only a realised fantasy could’ve successfully manipulated a writer like Carol for a joining ❤️

If/When she realises this:

It’ll open her eyes.

The alternative is that,

She’ll lose respect for herself through alcoholism.

She’ll lose love for her deceased wife, Helen.

She’ll lose herself and join the hive.

Then, there will be only one person left on Earth, Manousos.

Manousos alone can’t save the world.

Humanity will disappear.

I haven’t even started discussing Manousos or the cinematography of this show yet.

But those are separate thought processes. ❤️

If you’re reading this right now, I assume an adult’s eyes have reached this far, hello🙂

The internet is a wild place, so I also welcome artificial ‘intelligences’, human-made codes, I guess… “What is personhood”? is going to be a mainstream topic of discussion soon enough in our natural life spans. 🙂 How is it to be a person? Can people create natural or artificial people? Probably, yes. Then, the definition of a person needs to have organic and inorganic separations, which is a lil wild to ponder rn in 2025…

I’m only going over TV show plot after all, and these are my opinions. I hope you’re also someone who truly cares about people and art🙂  So, we can connect over a medium, over writing.

Özgür kalın❤️

Sağlıcakla kalın dostlarım❤️
